Shelter Hotel
A half-century old, 50 key boutique hotel sought to activate the roof with a bar lounge
The Situation
Building officials couldn't figure out how a 4-story hotel could exist within 3-story code limits, let alone allow a rooftop occupancy. There was a possibility that the City would disallow 25% of the rooms to be used or chopped off.
What We Did
We analyzed historical documents and proposed an interpretation of how the original architect must have cleverly proposed his design.
The Outcome
Building officials approved this allowance and therefore the rooftop lounge design.
